Incorrect choice or understanding of the phases of care often leads to lack of progress. Which phase you choose is always up to you and so try to make these choices with all the facts at hand. Please get involved.
Most often when people first visit our practice it is the pain or symptom spurring them into action. This is often an inflammatory stage and may require many visits over a period of days and weeks. The main objective during this Initial phase is to reduce the muscle spasm and inflammation and to increase your comfort levels. Please no heat should be applied to an inflamed joint. Also remember to stay out of unsupportive seats and bedding. Your spine needs support. Walking is a good and gentle exercise but remember you have an injury so rest it initially, allow it time to heal. Please don’t do things that will further aggravate the problem.
This next phase is all about stabilising and correcting the underlying crisis so it does not continue to reoccur.
Most joint injuries result from ongoing instability around the joint. During this phase Cameron will improve the mobility and stability of your spine (and peripheral joints) to allow healing of all involved tissues to occur.
Once stability is restored it is now important to strengthen the spinal joints.
After all they can now handle the load and activity! We often find that when exercise becomes routine after stabilisation, people make huge steps forward in terms of their resilience and sense of wellbeing. So aim high. Do your best.
Hopefully by now you are pain free, feeling healthy and living healthily, with chiropractic part of that regimen.
